“Kingsman: The Secret Service,” star Taron Egerton will appear in the upcoming comedic drama “Eddie the Eagle” with Hugh Jackman.

Egerton will play the role of real-life Olympic ski jumper Michael Eddie “The Eagle” Edwards. Edwards became the first British ski jumper to compete at the Calgary 1988 Winter Olympic Games to represent his nation.

The new sports drama is directed by Dexter Fletcher and is produced by Matthew Vaughan. Scriptwriters Simon Kelton and Sean Macaulay crafted a hyperbolic, feel-good story inspired by real-life events. The film is not entirely accurate with actual events but hopes to present the story in its essence. For example, Jackman’s character in the film may have been fabricated for narrative digression to make the story come to life in the big screens.

The official synopsis of the film says Jackman will play the rebellious and charismatic coach of Egerton’s character in the film and that the movie will present an underdog narrative with never say die attitude.

Part of the synopsis reads, “Eddie takes on the establishment and wins the hearts of sports fans around the world by making an improbable and historic showing at the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics.”

In the trailer, Egerton’s character moves back and forth between his desire to become an Olympic athlete to prove himself and the obstacles he had to endure to be able to compete in the sport. “Eddie the Eagle” trailer also thickens the plot with the reveal that Edwards suffered a leg injury as a kid and that the doctors advised him to give up sports entirely.

“Eddie the Eagle” is one of the few films that booked Taron Egerton in the lead role since his critically acclaimed performance in “Kingsman: The Secret Service.” The actor will reprise his role in the “Kingsman” sequel and will also star the upcoming, “Robin Hood: Origins.”

“Eddie the Eagle” opens on February, 26, 2016.
