Kings Park Festival 2015, a month-festival that celebrates the beauty of nature in Western Australia, started on Sept. 1. It still has some activities until Thursday, Oct. 1. It focuses on celebrating the theme “Beauty Rich and Rare.” A special event to watch out for is the Science Seminar at the Biodiversity Conservation Centre. Read on to learn more about it.

During the spring season, Western Australia appears as the garland of the earth owing to the number of plants and wildflowers which are found here. Approximately 6 million people visit Kings Park each year. Those who appreciate wildflowers will have a chance to get together to celebrate spring at Kings Park Festival. The south-west area of Western Australia is usually covered with lovely wildflowers during this time.

Santos Live music concerts, outdoor exhibitions, guided walks and various other activities keep the visitors engrossed throughout September. People from all walks of life enjoy the Kings Park Festival as they find themselves amidst the beauty of nature. Some trees are even decked up to attract visitors, including the regally-decorated Queen’s tree.

The 2015 Kings Park Festival features several activities and events, including the 50 Year Journey Exhibition, Bella Umbrellas, Daily Discovery Walks, Aspects Window Art, Dig It With Coffee, Funky Trunks, ClimateWatch Walk and the Science Seminar.

Most of the events at this festival are scheduled in September, except for the Science Seminar on Thursday. The Science Seminar is a free event, according to the official website of the Botanic Gardens and Park Authority. It will be held from 4-5 pm at the Biodiversity Conservation Centre in West Perth. It will feature University of Western Australia’s Professor Richard Hobbs. Professor Hobbs is also an ecologist and an author. He will discuss important ecological topics including setting and achieving restoration goals that are realistic in a rapidly changing world. The presentation will last for 30 minutes, followed by a question and answer segment. Coffee and tea will also be served during this time.

Kings Park Festival 2015 is part of the Kings Park and Botanic Garden Management Plan 2014 - 2019, which was approved by Hon. Albert Jacob in Oct. 2014 The said plan includes initiatives for Kings Park and Botanic Garden such as the celebration of the Western Australian Botanic Garden’s 50th anniversary in 2015 through special community events. Aside from these, a park-wide tree management strategy is also being developed for public safety.
