After selling his first script (“Vlad”) on Brad Pitt’s production company, Plan B, Charlie Hunnam is adding another script to his impressive resume with “American Drug Lord.” Based on a 2011 Rolling Stone article, the upcoming movie is set to star the “Sons of Anarchy” actor after he wrapped up the biker drama series in Deember.

“It's about this blonde-haired, blue-eyed all-American kid who had great aspirations for his life, and lost it all in one fell swoop when he got into an accident,” Hunnam told GQ. “Cut to five years later, he's running one of the biggest cartels in Mexico. It's an exploration of the death of the American dream. That's what I'm interested in.”

Based on Edgar Valdez’s story, “American Drug Lord” follows the life of a high school football player from Texas who rise to the level of cartel level in Mexico and made $130 million in one year by moving drugs from Colombia. Also known as La Barbie, a nickname given to him by his football coach, Valdez is famous for his violent execution of rivals and post them on the Internet.

Now in Mexico where he faced criminal charges, the Laredo native was arrested in 2010 and a wanted man in the U.S. on drug trafficking charges.

“American Sniper” scribe Jason Hall is set to do the screenplay and Legendary is scheduled to produce the film with Plan B’s Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner and Hunnam. Jillian Share and Sarah Sikora are in charge of supervising the project for Legandary with Plan B’s Sarah Esberg to executive produce.

Now in production for Guy Ritchie’s “Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur,” the 35-year-old is slowly working his way to the big screen after reining the small screen for seven years. Playing the titular role as King Arthur, the Hollywood hunk is starring alongside “Cold Mountain” and “Queer As Folks” co-stars Jude Law (Votigern) and Aidan Gillen (Goosefat Bill).

Australian actor Eric Bana (“Hulk”) plays King Arthur’s father, Uther Pendragon, with Cara Delevingne’s sister Poppy Delevingne as Igraine, Arthur’s mother. Other stars who are in the Arthurian remake include “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Strangers Tide” actress Astrid Berges-Frisbey as Guinevere and “Blood Diamons” actor Djimon Hounsou as Bedivere.
