Upmarket UK-based carmaker Rolls-Royce, owned by BMW, said it sold a record number of cars in 2011 benefiting from a surge in demand for luxury and bespoke cars from customers in emerging markets. The 107-year-old company said it sold 3,538 cars in 2011, up 31 percent on the year before, as sales of its Phantom and Ghost models both rose, beating the previous record from 1978, a year boosted by sales of its classic Silver Shadow II model. Fresh from a soul searching trip to Armenia, Kim Kardashian West splurged on a new Rolls Royce Phantom for which the base price would be over $400K. Her wheels also have been suitably upgraded to meet her tastes in designer wares.

Insiders point out that the Rolls Royce is the welcome home gift for Kim after her trip to France and Armenia. But not to be saddled with the base model, Kim has gone for mean customisation to keep her stock above the rest. The new Rolls Royce Phantom has been customized for Kim by Platinum Motorsport. The Los Angeles car customization company have sold high end cars to the Kardashian clan even in the past. The car has a solid matte silver colour with narrow headlights and dark tinted windows. Sources quote that “the final price would be more than a million dollars and meet Kim’s standard all the way.” The star was seen coming back from her fitness training in her new set of wheels.

This is not the first time that Kim splurged on expensive wheels. She has previously owned a Rolls Royce Ghost, a White Ferrari and a Mercedes Benz G63. Kim has a penchant for big mean cars and has gifted her husband a Lamborghini Aventador, which she drives frequently. Kanye West also shares his wife’s tastes and has a black Lamborghini Sports Car.

Rolls Royce Phantom has resurrected the venerable brand from the deep end and sales have more than tripled last year. It has been due to the willingness of the company to customise its cars according to the customer tastes. From embedding diamonds to creating a mini planetarium, Rolls Royce has been receptive to buyer needs more than any other car company.
