It may have taken a while to do it, but game developer Alonso Martin is set to release a brand new roleplaying game called “Heart Forth, Alicia.” The game is inspired by some of the Super Nintendo games in the 1990s with its own dark twist to the story and gameplay.

The game was funded by a Kickstarter campaign that not only reached its intended goal of $60,000 but also managed to make even more money, gaining $232,365 by May 2014. Thanks to the 7,472 backers who helped fund the game, Martin was able to reach one of his Kickstarter goals and release the Metroidvania-inspired game on PlayStation platforms.

While there hasn’t been too much revealed about the game’s story, a trailer which showed the various gameplay and story elements that will be in the game was release. The game takes place in a floating city filled with wizards who were cursed by the spirit of light to never have children.

As the ceremony begins for Alicia and Hostra, the last two wizards of the bloodline, a wizard is killed and the spirit of light takes over Hostra’s body and throws Alicia off a cliff. This is where her journey begins, as well as the journey for the player of the game.

The gameplay is heavily inspired by “Castlevania: Symphony of the Night,” as Alicia must roam the environments for secret weapons and power-ups while also using a whip-like weapon to take on enemies. “The Legend of Zelda” is supposedly a big influence as well, with Alicia exploring many dungeons in the game like “Zelda” character, Link.

It was announced on the PlayStation Blog that “Heart Forth, Alicia” will be coming to both the PlayStation 4 and the handheld PlayStation Vita. The game is also set for release on Windows PC, MAC and Linux. IGN stated that the game would also be coming to Nintendo consoles, as “Heart Forth, Alicia” will also be coming out for the Wii U and 3DS.

“Heart Forth Alicia” has no definitive release date as of the moment, though it’s been slated for a vague 2016 release date. The PlayStation version will reportedly have a demo during the GDC event tomorrow.
