Reality TV star Khloe Kardashian has been working hard at the gym and she’s been flaunting the results. While she looks great, a recent photo showing her wearing a waist trainer has brought about some criticism and concern from fans who think she’s taking things too far.

“Im obsessed with the gym but a little extra help never hurt nobody @waistgangsociety and @premadonna87 keep my waist snatched and posture perfect,” Khloe said in a post shared on Monday. In the photo, she is seen posing in front of the mirror inside her fitness wardrobe. She is surrounded by her workout gear and she’s wearing a black bodysuit and a corset that is cinching her waist until it’s very, very tiny.

While some fans admired Khloe’s extremely tiny waistline, many of her followers expressed concern about the possible side effects of wearing the waist trainer. Others downright slammed her for using what they feel is a dangerous product.

“Those are so bad for your internal organs. They push organs into each other and outward,” said user @23michelle23. “This is bad for your health,” added @ayodolapo_s. Meanwhile, others were so impressed and vowed to get one for themselves.

The popular medieval piece of clothing made a recent comeback and has been renamed as a waist trainer. Just like in the old days, it cinches one’s waist to whittle down the waistline, but it is still questionable if wearing one causes lasting results.

Health.com did some research on the trend and came to the conclusion that wearing a waist trainer can only deliver temporary results. They enlisted the help of Dr. Caroline Apovian, a professor of medicine at Boston University School of Medicine, and asked for a prefessional opinion.

Apovian explained that wearing a waist trainer can cause side effects like discomfort, difficulty breathing and acid reflux. She also said that instead of it helping one get a nice, tight midsection, the waist trainer may actually end up weakening muscles in the long run as it tries to keep them supported for extended periods.

However, she said that she sees nothing wrong with women wearing a corset to look slimmer for a night out to feel more confident. She cautions though that wearing it too tight could cause issues, and the user must loosen or take off the garment if they feel discomfort.
