Kevin Love to Cleveland Cavaliers Trade Update: Minnesota GM Flip Saunders Wants Wiggins/Bennett Package

Despite the fact that the Cleveland Cavaliers signed Andrew Wiggins to a rookie deal, Flip Saunders is reportedly still very interested in trading Kevin Love to the LeBron James’ squad.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Wiggins, Anthony Bennett and future first-round picks is “becoming more tempting for coach/president of basketball operations Flip Saunders.”

“It gives [Saunders] a chance to mold the team how he wants it,” stated an unnamed source in the article.

As much as Saunders want the Wiggins, Bennett and future picks package, the Timberwolves have now to wait 30 days from the time the Wiggins signed his rookie deal worth $5.5 million in the first year for the Cavaliers.

Cleveland locked up the top overall pick of the 2014 NBA Draft last Thursday which means that Wiggins can only be dealt, by himself or with other players, starting August 23, 2014.

That’s temporary reprieve won’t stop trade rumours from continuing or teams chasing Love, who was statistically one of the best players in the league last season.

The Cavs are not only offering their top pick this year but also Bennett, who is the top overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft plus future first-rounders in upcoming drafts.

The 30-day window should also open the possibility that other teams up the ante on the Love trade front.

The 25-year-old Love is entering his seventh season in the NBA and logged in 26.1 points, 12.5 rebounds and 4.4 assists for the Timberwolves in the 2013-2014 season.

Among other teams who were reportedly interested are the Chicago Bulls , New York Knicks and Golden State Warriors although it appears the Bulls has dropped out of the race owing to the fact that they already signed free agent big men Pau Gasol and Nikola Mirotic in the offseason.

The Warriors are apparently still in it especially if they include shooter Klay Thompson along with Harrison Barnes and veteran David Lee. New York, perhaps doing due diligence, offered a laughable package of Amare Stoudemire, Iman Shumpert and Tim Hardaway Jr.

The Timberwolves are losing leverage in any Love deal considering the fact that their franchise player has previously announced that he’s opting out of a $16.74M final year (2015-2016) of his deal in Minnesota, which has yet to prove they are ready to be a playoff team.

Love has demanded to be traded to a contender and the Cavaliers with LeBron James fit the bill. Saunders and the Minnesota camp knows this and the 30-day moratorium won’t stop them from getting maximum value in any deal that involves Kevin Love.
