After Raheem Sterling, Fabian Delph, Nicolas Otamendi and Patrick Roberts, the Belgian attacking midfielder, Kevin de Bruyne is set to join and strengthen Manchester City’s frontline. After leaving his former club, Wolfsburg, De Bruyne signed a six-year contract with City at the Etihad Stadium for a fee of £54 million (AU $84.95 million).

This exorbitant transfer has gone down in history as the second most expensive transfer fee paid by a British club. The list is topped by Angel Di Maria’s transfer from Real Madrid to Manchester United which cost the latter club a huge sum of £59.7 million (AU $93.92 million).

De Bruyne, the attacking midfielder who has been named the Footballer of the Year in Germany has been referred to as “special player” by the City manager, Manuel Pellegrini.

"We are very happy to have added Kevin to our team and I have no doubt that he will be a big success on his return to the Premier League. It takes a special player to improve our squad. We like to play attacking, attractive football. Bringing in a player like this will only aid us. He has all of the mental, physical, tactical and technical attributes required to fit straight in,” Pellegrini said about De Bruyne as reported by the club’s official site.

De Bruyne who will be seen wearing number 17 jersey is all looking forward to be associated with City and has already undergone the medical test.

"I want to reach the highest level possible as a player and I think the most important thing is that at the end of the season we can be happy and maybe have some titles. I think this is the most important for the club, the players and for the fans of course.”, De Bruyne said in City’s official site.

De Bruyne has played wondrously in his former club, which with his amazing contribution won last season's German Cup and finished second in the Bundesliga.
