Keith Thurman thinks that Floyd Mayweather, Jr. is just running out of opponents, which is why the undefeated fighter is leaning towards fighting Andre Berto in his sixth and last fight with Showtime. Thurman reckons that Berto is not the fighter that Mayweather would want to face before the Grand Rapids native fighter retires from the sport.

“I don’t think Mayweather (48-0, 26 KOs) is going to retire on an Andre Berto,” Thurman (26-0, 22 KOs) said as reported by Boxing Scene . He added, “I never assumed he was going to retire.”

The World Boxing Association welterweight champ has said that just because Mayweather’s contract with Showtime is over doesn’t mean that the undefeated fighter will stop fighting in the squared circle. After Mayweather fulfilled his six-fight lucrative deal with Showtime, it only means that the 38-year-old five-division world champion can take full ownership and control of his own career. He said that Mayweather has every right to decide how many more fights he wants to embark in or for how long he wants to stay in the sporting world of boxing.

Thurman is not the only one who believes that Mayweather will continue fighting after his next fight slated to take place at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Former World Boxing Organisation Intercontinental light middleweight champion Gabriel Rosado told Fight Hype that he doubts September’s fight will be Mayweather’s last fight.

“He (Mayweather) needs that high, man, so for this to be his last fight, I doubt it,” Rosado said. He further said, “I don’t want to see Floyd retire.”

Rosado expects that Mayweather will fight again in 2016. He didn’t say who he thinks Mayweather will fight, but he suggested that a rematch with Pacquiao will be a good fight given the amount of money that Mayweather and the Filipino boxing champion made in their May 2 fight which was deemed as the “Fight of the Century.”

Mayweather’s fight with Berto is still not finalised yet. However, with less than two months before Mayweather’s target fight date, it is anticipated that he will officially make an announcement in the coming days.
