UNICEF adds glamour to their kitty. The United Nations children's agency has chosen pop star Katy Perry as their goodwill ambassador. The singer was thrilled and ecstatic by her position and said the newly chosen designation has made her realize the true meaning of life, which is way beyond the worldly possessions and social status.

The "Roar" songstress was so moved by her first UNICEF trip to the underprivileged Indian Ocean island nation of Madagascar in April that she wrote the lyrics of her song "Unconditionally." "It changed my life," Perry said of the trip. "It really kind of reprioritized my thinking, and my whole approach on life, and how to find my own joy and my own happiness that isn't being from material possessions and social status."

UNICEF Executive Director Anthony Lake seemed truly inspired by Katy Perry's latest hit number "Roar" as he officially announced her as the ambassador in a function in New York.

"Katy Perry is already a champion for children, and we look forward to hearing her 'roar' on behalf of UNICEF," said Lake. "We are delighted that she is joining us as UNICEF's newest Goodwill Ambassador and lending her remarkable voice to amplify the voices of children and young people around the world."

The 29-year-old songstress was dressed in a sequined skin coloured dress for the special occasion. Katy looked happy and smiling as she announced the goodwill ambassador. "It's nice to be able to pop the bubble that I live in and realize that the world has so many different things to offer and cultures," Perry said.

In Oct., the "Grace of God" singer joined in UNICEF's celebration of the International Day of the Girl Child when she lend her "Roar" soundtrack to inspire girls, encouraging them to become tomorrow's champions.

By becoming the goodwill ambassador for UNICEF, Perry joins the league of famous actors, which includes Amitabh Bachchan, David Beckham, Harry Belafonte, Orlando Bloom, Jackie Chan, Mia Farrow, Danny Glover, Angelique Kidjo, Liam Neeson, Leo Messi, Sir Roger Moore, Vanessa Redgrave and Susan Sarandon.
