On July 2, pop singer Katy Perry, 31, reached over 90 million followers on Twitter. The recording artist is now known as the "Queen" of the social media site.

The developers themselves congratulated the "Teenage Dream" songstress through a tweet.

Katy then cleverly responded with four words.

The 31-year-old singer behind chart-topping Billboard hits "Part of Me" and "Wide Awake" became the first user on Twitter to surpass the 90-million follower mark. Katy was the only person on the social media site to achieve such a feat. According to Twittercounter, she is followed by Canadian singer-songwriter Justin Bieber with 83.8 million and Grammy-awarded performer Taylor Swift with 78.9 million on the list. Joining the three recording artists in the top five are US President Barack Obama at number four with 75.8 million and YouTube's official account at fifth with 62.8 million. The rest of the top ten "Most Followed People" are celebrities Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Ellen Degeneres, Justin Timberlake and Twitter's own profile.

On May 31, Katy’s account was hacked and the perpetrator began spreading offensive and discriminating messages using her name. The tweets reached her 89 million followers at that time. A link to an unreleased track called “Witness” was even uploaded on her profile. People reported that when she recovered her account, every malicious tweet made by the hacker was deleted. Despite the incident, the pop icon managed to keep her follower count at that time and the track was deleted on SoundCloud.

Katy first joined Twitter in 2009. She has also become a trending topic on the social media site when she was reported to be involved with some of Taylor Swift's ex-boyfriends such as Harry Styles and John Mayer. Because of this, her feuds and "shade-throwing" with the "1989" hit-maker became one of the most talked-about trends online.
