Katie Holmes and Suri Cruise Spend Quality Time In Manhattan [PHOTOS]
Suri Cruise has been spending the week being a good student while wearing the school uniform at the Avenues School but during the weekend, 6-year old Suri was spotted having a relaxed quality time in Manhattan with her mother Katie Holmes.
The little girl was wearing her own light blue dress paired with red ballet flats and Suri appeared to be in a good mood because she was all smiles while shopping and running errands with her mom in the Big Apple.
Meanwhile, the 33-year old actress Katie Holmes was dressed in a casual pair of jeans and a bulky sweater and it became a far cry from her usual glamorous look just like what she wore on her first runway show at the New York Fashion Week.
According to reports, Katie Holmes and Suri Cruise's new life has not really been happy gymnastics classes, cupcakes and trips to the zoo. Recently, the "Dawson's Creek" actress confessed that her daughter Suri is still adjusting to a much more modest lifestyle after the divorce from Tom Cruise has been finalized last June.
"She said the divorce has been hard on Suri and she's acting out," a friend of Katie Holmes revealed to Us Weekly. However, Katie Holmes is still determined to remain firm and not easily give in to whatever Suri wishes.
"Katie says no to some things but gives a little leeway. She knows Tom is going to spoil her," the source further shared. How exactly would Tom Cruise spoil little Suri? Well, the "Mission Impossible" actor paid a $6,000 helicopter ride to the Hamptons over the summer when he was reunited briefly with his daughter.
In her very first post-divorce interview, Holmes opened up to Women's Wear Daily on how she chooses to handle the personal challenges and how that kind of approach has an impact on her parenting philosophy. After explaining that she is no longer afraid to fail, Katie Holmes claimed that she has also been trying to impart the same attitude to her daughter through arts and crafts projects.
However, it does not always go according to plan. "I think, 'Oh, I'm a great mom' and then it doesn't pan out the way I think it's going to. But the intention's there," Holmes said.
Earlier this month, Suri started attending school at New York City's elite Avenues where she has to give up her designer heels for Lands' End uniforms which is the strict dress code. For Katie Holmes part, the doting mother is thrilled about the opportunity in encouraging Suri to wear more casual clothes. "She wants her to fit in and be more of a normal kid," a source shared.
She may still be adjusting but Suri Cruise looks happy trying to settle in with the New York City life with her mother while her father, Tom Cruise, is busy working in Europe.
