The Duchess might be one of the most fashionable icons of the present world, but it doesn't mean she does not have her bad days when it comes to style.

Now that the British Style Awards is drawing near, the buzz surrounding whether the Duchess will top the short list is concerning fashion critics and fans. Sure, Kate Middleton has worn some of the most elegant dresses from top designers, but she was also caught repeating ensembles and mixing pieces that don't go well together.

Each time the Duchess will score a miss on fashion, it is somehow related to what she puts on her head - literally. One example is when she attended Zara Phillips' wedding with that crazy "Pringles" spectator hat that made her look like a walking figurine. Another is the feather hat, making Middleton seem like an ostrich with a sleek beige suit.

It is a well-known fact that Middleton likes bold colors as much as she likes pastels and neutral tones. Everytime she steps out in red, she can't help but match it with the color black and sadly, it doesn't work all the time. It's as if she's taken a vow to only mix red clothing with black accessories or accent; or with another tone as long as it's dark.

These are rare cases when fashion critics hope that Middleton's point-of-view on having a personal stylist as "completely unnecessary," change. Just for a day or two.

For one, she was seen wearing an oversized, red coat with shoulder pads, matched in sheer black stockings and leather gloves. Instead of looking like a modern princess, her outfit was too reminiscent of the 80's. Even if Middleton's tagged Britain's "most fashionable royal," it doesn't mean she won't have her bad days as when it comes to self-styling.
