Kate Middleton’s Olympics Opening Ceremony Outfit: Sightly or Ugly? [PHOTOS]

Many were eager to see what The Duchess of Cambridge would be wearing at the opening ceremony for the London Olympics 2012. But when Kate Middleton finally stepped out in an ice blue Christopher Kane dress, there were a lot of applause and disappointment.

Perhaps fashion critics were all looking forward for what Kate Middleton will be wearing for an important event such as the opening ceremony for the London Olympics 2012. Some have predicted that she will then again rely on her favorite designer brand Alexander McQueen, who has never failed her, fashion wise. Or presumably something from Jenny Packham or Temperley who have both done her favors in the style department.

But The Duchess of Cambridge took a risk and went to British designer, Christopher Kane, for her opening ceremony party dress. It was a satin, A-line, dress coat with a matching ice blue belt. Although she didn't look as striking as she appeared in a scarlet McQueen dress at the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, Kate definitely played it safe.

Even if the dress wasn't at all hideous, it was a bit boring too. Kate probably decided to let the athletes have the spotlight this time. After all, the event was in fact for all the athletes representing their countries at the 2012 Olympics.

The Duchess of Cambridge had a brief encounter with First Lad Michelle Obama who looked dazzling in an outfit by American designer J. Mendel. As the case may be for this occasion, Kate should seek fashion advice from Michelle who is also considered a style icon.
