While the media awaits the birth of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s second child, the name guessing also continues. According to CNN royal commentator Victoria Arbiter, Kate Middleton and Prince William may likely give baby no. 2 with a middle name coming from the Duchess’ side of the family.

The Duchess of Cambridge is rumoured to give birth on April 25 and whether the baby is a boy or a girl remains unknown. Prince William and Kate Middleton reportedly insists on keeping the baby’s gender a surprise until the baby’s birth. However, Arbiter told E Online that perhaps the royal couple will give baby no. 2 a middle name coming from the “current living member of the Royal family.” The newborn will reportedly likely be named after one of the Duchess’ grandmothers’ names if not after Kate’s mother’s name.

Carole Middleton, formerly Carole Goldsmith, is said to be the number one choice for a middle name for Kate Middleton and Prince William’s second baby if the newborn comes out to be a girl. Other choices come from names of Kate’s grandmothers including Valerie, which comes from Kate’s paternal grandmother, Valerie Middleton. The latter was reportedly a member of Britain’s “spy school” during World War II. Other name choices coming from the Duchess’ side of the family also include Mary, from Kate’s paternal great aunt Mary Glassborow, Olive, from Kate’s paternal great-grandmother, Olive Middleton, Dorothy, named after the Duchess’ maternal grandmother Dorothy Harrison and Harriet, coming from Kate’s paternal great great-grandmother, Harriet Davis. Constance, after Kate Middleton’s paternal great-grandmother is the last choice next to Margaret, who was the name given to Queen Elizabeth II’s late sister and also the name of Kate’s grandfather Peter’s sister Margaret Middleton.

However, if the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s second baby is a boy, James is said to be an unlikely choice. "There has been a lot of talk about James, but people kept saying that they wouldn't pick James because of James Middleton, the reason more they wouldn't pick James is because Prince Edward's son is called James," Victoria Arbiter said. Thus, the primary choice would reportedly be Michael, after Kate’s father’s name and second would be Peter, the name given to the Duchess’ paternal grandfather. Other possible middle names for the second baby include Noel, John, William, Francis, Edward and Thomas. It also includes Ronald and Charles, after Prince Charles and the name of Kate’s maternal great-grandfather.

As for the second baby’s first name, Alice is said to be the number one choice among punters in Britain who betted on a baby girl for Kate Middleton and Prince William’s newborn. According to The Telegraph, a “Princess Alice” reigns among other name bets at Ladbrokes. “The support for Alice is starting to get silly now, but we’ve been left with no option but to cut the odds as punters relentlessly back the girl/Alice combination,” Ladbrokes spokesperson Jessica Bridge said. Meanwhile, Arthur and James were reportedly the fancied names for those who gambled on a baby boy.
