The Duchess of Cambridge played it safe at the Olympics opening ceremony, held at the Buckingham Palace. And while she decides to button up, US First Lady, Michelle Obama, outshines her at her very own territory.

While Kate Middleton looked elegant as always in a Christopher Kane creation, some can't help but compare her to the US First Lady, Michelle Obama, who was also in attendance for the Olympics opening ceremony at the Buckingham Palace. Michelle was present to show support for the American athletes who are participating for the 2012 London Olympics.

Some say that The Duchess of Cambridge was outshined by Michelle. The US First Lady chose a white embroidered top paired with flowing knee-length skirt from American designer J. Mendel. Kate Middleton appeared in an ice blue dress coat which was made by British designer Christopher Kane.

While the two ladies greeted each other warmly at the occasion, some have compared the two and their chosen wardrobes for the evening. It was quite obvious that Michelle stood out against Kate when they were put together in one picture.

Michelle's dress was pure elegance while Kate's satin dress looked dull. And although Obama was at The Duchess' terrain, fashion critics can't deny with their own eyes that the US First Lady won the fashion face-off hands down.
