Kaley Cuoco filed for divorce from Ryan Sweeting, her husband of 21 months, because of “irreconcilable differences.” However, recent sources claim that the split was caused because the tennis player had developed an addiction to the painkillers prescribed to him in 2014 after his back injury.

Extra reports that a source close to Cuoco revealed that the actress had previously opened up to friends about her marriage with Sweeting. That’s when she reportedly revealed that her marriage started to "go downhill" after her husband started taking too much of something that the doctors prescribed to him.

Another source believed to be a friend to “The Big Bang Theory” star told US Weekly (via News.com.au) that Cuoco tried so hard to help Sweeting battle his addiction to painkillers. However, he reportedly couldn’t commit to getting better so the actress finally decided to give up.

“She supported him but she said he couldn’t make the commitment to get sober. He’s tell her he was working on it and instead go get wasted,” the source said.

Another friend told the publication that Cuoco finally realised that Sweeting “wasn’t the man she thought he was.” The actress reportedly could no longer take his ups and downs after his addiction to the painkillers gave him mood swings that “he’d lash out” at his wife.

Sweeting had agreed to go to rehab in Boston to seek help, according to Extra. But it was too little, too late as Cuoco had already filed for divorce.

In 2006, the tennis player was arrested for the possession of a drug without a prescription and for driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol. Extra said that following the arrest, Sweeting had vowed to take full responsibility of his actions and promised to “do whatever it takes to remain a Gator” (referencing to his Florida men’s tennis team in the National Collegiate Athletics Association, or NCAA competition).

Sweeting and Cuoco were married for less than two years. They dated for three months before tying the knot. They announced their divorce on Friday, Sept. 25. A representative for the ex-couple said it was a mutual separation. Following the announcement, the actress immediately deleted photos of her ex-husband from her Instagram feed, leaving no trace of her once married life.
