The "Just Cause" series has been considered and antithesis to the serious breed of big-budget first-person cover shooters such as "Call of Duty" and "Battlefield". Over the years it has been known to embody ridiculous and over-the-top narrative combined with colourfully absurd characters in a third-person perspective within a sprawling sandbox. Fans of the franchise would be delighted to know that "Just Cause 3" won't be diluting the spirit of the game in the quest of grabbing more eyeballs.

Speaking to Game Reactor, "Just Cause 3" Game Director Roland Lesterlin assured that the game will be light-hearted. This comes as a great respite for fans, who were worried that the series would take a more serious route in the footsteps of the generic shooters trying hard to be mature.

According to Lesterlin, the game's outrageous physics -- requiring the player to bounce off walls, attach to helicopters and cars and generally run amok with the grappling hook mechanics -- are so far removed from reality that it would be "silly" to associate them with a serious narrative, according to VG247. The juxtaposition of "Just Cause 3's" campy humour, larger-than-life characters and overall mad action apparently is too incompatible with the sort of narrative that you witness in most AAA games these days.

"I think it's lighthearted, so from the very beginning we're always sitting there and checking out the world and saying ‘well, if I'm playing with physics and I've tethered someone up to a wall and then a car next to it and the whole thing explodes,' well it's just silly," said Lesterlin in an interview with Game Reactor. "And then if you had a serious story next to it, it just wouldn't really fit together, so our story has the same sort of humour in it. It allows us to be a little campy and fun."

Lesterlin said that the hilarity of the games scenes was apparent in the reactions of the voice/mocap actors involved in the project. The Game Director admitted that the project's inherent silliness and absurdity made working on it fun for the entire team. During the course of the interview, he promised that he is working with some talented actors to flesh out the campy, "B-action movie" feel of the franchise with "Just Cause 3."

Although official launch date hasn't been fixed, "Just Cause 3" is expected to arrive sometime at the end of the year. The multi-platform game will launch on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
