Ex-Prime Minister Julia Gillard and The Bachelor Australia have an interesting and pretty connection - Sherri Mathieson. She is the daughter of Ms Gillard's partner, Tim Mathieson, Australia's most famous hairdresser.

However, Ms Mathieson said that she cannot talk about Ms Gillard's ordeal back in June when she was ousted as Australia's Prime Minister.

"I got back [from New York], I was on the Gold Coast for a few weeks, and then I was in Sydney," Ms Matheison said in an interview with The Age.

All she can say was that Ms Gillard, has a "girlie" side hidden away from people who see her as Australia's former leader.

"She is really lovely and she has that charisma and that warmth when you do meet her. She's really funny as well, and I think people never got to see that."

She said that she is looking forward to spending some quality time with Ms Gillard and Mr Mathieson.

Ms Mathieson is a makeup artist who had worked in Melbourne, London and most recently in New York. She said she owe it all to her father.

"I basically lived in a hair salon growing up, so it was just always something I wanted to do."

She shared that her father was the "cool" dad.

"Growing up, he was always the dad that all the girls went to for boy advice, our house was the 'hangout house'. He's a fun, easygoing guy, I'm very lucky."

In fact, she received the get-go from her father to join The Bachelor Australia.

"I chatted to him before I went on, and he was quite open-minded ... he said go on, be yourself, have fun, that kind of thing. [He said] play it a bit cool, don't go crazy."

"The timing was really right - coming home, I had no commitments to tie me down, and thought 'this is one of those once-in-a-lifetime funny experiences that you'll be able to look back on'."

Ms Mathieson shared that the introductory cocktail for the show was something really new to her.

She was particularly amazed on how her contenders can turn from friendly to being competitive.

"To be honest, I was completely overwhelmed, because of so many big personalities, and so much going on. Some girls went in definitely with stronger agendas in mind."

"Meeting Ali, I thought wow, what a sweet girl, she's a big contender. But the second Tim was there she turned into another person, it was just bizarre to watch."

And as for her impression on Tim, she said:

"I think he's definitely all that he seems to be. He's definitely sweet, he's definitely quite good-looking... he's a really nice guy."
