Tablet computers will outsell personal computers by 2015 Reuters

The Finnish start-up company has finally dared to penetrate the tablet arena by launching its own flagship tablet just a day after Nokia marked its comeback to the tablet market with the N1 Android tablet. Despite the fierce competition, Jolla will go all out and will start shipping by the second quarter of next year.

According to PCWorld, Jolla, a Finnish word for "dinghy" (raft or boat), was founded by a group of former Nokia employees in 2011. The company began selling its own smartphone a year after the company's birth.

The Jolla Tablet is quite similar to the Apple's iPad Mini 3 and to Nokia's N1 with some of its features. The Jolla has a 7.9-inch display with an impressive 2048x1536 resolution and it runs on 1.8 GHz quad-core Intel processor with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. As compared to other tablets in the market, it lacks the aluminum body, making it relatively cheaper than others, Pocket-Lint reports.

Despite the similarities with other brands, it is the Sailfish OS that gives the biggest difference, which sets the Finnish tablet apart. This new OS can definitely make the likes of Apple and Google be on the look-out. The capacity of the start-up company was evident during last year's release of the Jolla smartphone wherein the company managed to deliver 13,000 bug fixes from nine updates and has added 350 new features.

The Sailfish OS aims on being simple especially when multitasking and jumping between apps seamlessly and button free. The entire OS is in open source and could be adjusted by third-party developers. Users should not be worried about the content since it is run by some Android apps.

On the other hand, the Finnish company had to turn to Indiegogo crowdfunding platform to help sell its new Jolla Tablet. The goal is to sell $380,000 and targets to sell 2,000 units before Dec. 9. But surprisingly, the campaign quickly surpassed its goal and has earned $566,000. As per PCMag's report, all 1,000 of tablets have been sold out at US$189 discounted price. Interested consumers can still avail the Jolla Tablet for US$199 plus $20 for shipping to Europe, Norway, Switzerland, India, China, Hong Kong, Russia and the United States.
