“Jessica Jones” season 2 is coming back after more than a year of waiting. The Netflix superhero series also cast an Oscar nominee for the second instalment.

Two-time Academy Awards nominee Janet McTeer has signed a deal to appear in the second season of the Netflix and Marvel collaboration. It is still unclear what character McTeer will play but apparently, her character will have a huge impact on Jessica’s (Krysten Ritter) life.

“We are so fortunate to have an actress of Janet’s talent and stature join what is already an incredible cast. Our second season of ‘Marvel’s Jessica Jones’ aims to capture what audiences loved about our first, and Janet will be key to achieving that goal,” Marvel’s Head of Television and Executive Producer Jeph Loeb said in a statement.

McTeer won a Golden Globe and received a Best Actress nomination from Oscars for her role as Mary Jo Walker in 1999 movie “Tumbleweeds.” She also received an Emmy nod for her role as Clementine Churchill in HBO’s “Into the Storm.” The 55-year-old actress’ TV credits also include “The White Queen” and “Damages.”

In season 2, Jessica opens her own detective agency in New York after her short-lived superhero career ended tragically. She deals with cases involving people in the city with remarkable abilities.

The debut season of “Jessica Jones” aired in November 2015. The show was renewed for season 2 in January 2016.

The private spy with superhuman strength will be coming back with 13 episodes in season 2. Release date for the sophomore year of has not yet been announced but it is expected to premiere in 2018.

The plot for season 2 also remains under wrap. But series creator Melissa Rosenberg has previously hinted that Jessica will not be cured in season 2 and will continue to deal with the trauma of the sexual assault.

"She was kind of messed up even before Kilgrave came along and so in season 2 we can explore what's possible for her moving forward … That trauma is a huge part of who she is now," Rosenberg told Esquire last year.

The creator added the heroine will also be dealing with the events in season 1 including her liability in the deaths of several people. Rosenberg also mentioned season 2 will feature more of the relationship between Jessica and with her adoptive sister and best friend Trish Walker (Rachael Taylor).

Meanwhile, Ritter will also appear in “Marvel’s The Defenders.” The eight-episode miniseries' season 1 will premiere in August in Netflix.
