Marvel has been notably diverse lately. From a female Thor, an African-American Captain America, to a young schoolgirl who will be taking Ironman’s place, it has really adjusted to what fans from across the world would like to see in the comics. For The Incredible Hulk, however, Marvel has recently decided to make him team-up with a fellow Asian.

Brooklyn Nets superstar Jeremy Lin has just made his first comic book appearance. The 28-year-old point guard was spotted at Marvel’s “Totally Awesome Hulk” issue, where he appeared on the cover, teasing a team-up between the basketball star and the green hero.

Comic book writer Greg Pak, who came up with the issue, revealed that he got struck with Linsanity during the 2011-2012 NBA season. Pak reveals to ESPN that he grew up as the nerdy kid who cared very little about sports. However, he was living in New York City when Linsanity took place and he found it a mind-blowing experience. He immediately became a fan as he took note of Lin’s tremendous fortitude and dedication.

He also adds that what fascinated him most is Lin’s underdog story, since he loves underdogs. With his given talent and opportunity, he decided to give a new venue for his fascination of Linsanity, so he took this out on his latest comic book.

Those who have been following the Marvel comic books should know that The Incredible Hulk is no longer Bruce Banner, but Korean-American Marvel mainstay Amadeus Cho. Pak, who is Korean-American himself, created Amadeus Cho alongside Takeshi Miyazawa way back in 2005. Since Cho was created, he had been a recurring character as an extra or a sidekick. He was even listed as having one of the highest IQs in the Marvel Universe. Last year, they decided to let Cho take over The Incredible Hulk.

When Lin first learned that he was going to be part of a comic book, he was surprised, notes Next Shark. Later, Lin reportedly got concerned about how they are going to use him, how he is going to look and eventually got very interested in what would happen. As to how everything turns out, it remains to be seen for those who have plans to read the issue soon.
