Jeremy Lin, the Brooklyn Nets point guard, went through shooting drills on Tuesday and is expected to return to action in the near future, per reports.

Lin, who signed a three-year, US$38 million (AU$51 million) contract with the Nets this offseason, appeared in the first five games of the season before suffering a hamstring injury that has kept him action for the last 15 games.

The Nets began the season 2-3 with Lin running the point. Since Lin's injury, they are 5-15 and find themselves at the bottom of the eastern conference for a second consecutive season.

Jeremy Lin returns to shooting drills

Nets insider Bryan Fonseca reported Tuesday that the Nets are being cautious with Lin despite the guard returning to shooting drills.

Lin was averaging a career-high tally of 15.0 points and 6.2 assists before suffering an injury during the Nov. 2 defeat to the Detroit Pistons at the Barclays Center.

At the time of the injury, the Nets announced via a statement that Lin would be re-evaluated in two weeks. It's been nearly a month and the Nets are yet to declare a timetable for Lin's return. On Monday, Nets general manager Sean Marks said that the guard was "progressing" and expects him to return "pretty soon".

“Jeremy is one of the most competitive people I’ve ever seen, I don’t think he’ll mind me saying this, but he said, ‘I’m used to proving people wrong. It’s what I’ve done my whole life, so I’m going to prove people wrong with this injury.’ And I said, ‘look let’s just take your time.’

"The performance team says, ‘you don’t need to prove them wrong by coming back too soon, so just take your time.’ You know you’ve got the right guy, the right fibre, when one of your elite players says something like this. I wanna (want to) prove people wrong, itching to get back.

"He’s so vocal, still at practice, in the locker room and has been from day one when he was out with his injury. He’s progressing well. I obviously don’t want to put a time limit or a day, but I suspect it pretty soon," Marks told the Brooklyn Nets' official Facebook page.

Since entering the league in 2010-11, Jeremy Lin has appeared for six different teams.
