Forbes released its annual top 100 of most powerful celebrities. Surprisingly, Jennifer Lopez surpassed United States' Queen of Media, Oprah Winfrey.

Oprah Winfrey came in second followed by pop stars, Justin Bieber and Rihanna.

The ranking was based on combination of earnings, press coverage and internet presence. According to Forbes, many of the celebrities venture in business investments. Young artist Justin Bieber is an investor with shares in many companies, including Spotify.

Celebrities are making investments to support themselves; like Jennifer Lopez whose singing and acting career started to dwindle down. However, her success as an American Idol judge, highly-publicized divorce with ex-husband Marc Anthony, followed by lucrative endorsements sent her to the top of the list.

Moreover, Jennifer managed to earn $US52 million over the last 12 months and a massive amount of fame.

However, the earning power of the top 100 celebrities dropped compared last year. For example, Oprah Winfrey is the number one celebrity in terms of earning capacity with her $165 million earnings this year. But still, it was almost half of her $290 million haul last year.
