Every year, Glamour pays tribute to women from all ages and all places that have done something to shake up the worlds.

This year, the publication honoured Withelma "T" Ortiz-Macey (an activist and survivor of sex trafficking), long time feminist activist Gloria Steinem, actress Lea Michele, fashion designer Tory Burch, comedian Chelsea Handler, internet journalist Arianna Huffington, "Facebook Girl" Esraa Abdel Fattah (who was instrumental in Egypt's revolution) and Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Gifford who earlier this year survived the Tucson assassination attempt on her life.

Among these incredible women, Jennifer Lopez got a tad teary eyed as she accepted her award for the night's highest honour for Woman of the Year. Lopez said that she, like most of the women in the room, felt overwhelmed by the award and what it represented. She took a moment to say a piece about her grandmother and what was taught to her about humility and always looking presentable.

The American Idol judge certainly had a rollercoaster of a year-she released an album, was dubbed most beautiful woman of the year by People magazine, and of course her divorce to husband of seven years, singer Marc Anthony.

Most recently, the 42 year old mother of twins was caught off guard in a performance of her song, "Until It Beats No More." Surrounded by dancers who resembled famous exes such as Cris Judd, Diddy and even Ben Affleck, Lopez said that the whole thing just made her remember what she had been through. The most powerful moment was when a picture of her twins for a Gucci campaign was shown on the jumbo-tron- Lopez started crying even as the audience showered her with applause.

With a remarkable feat of vulnerability, Glamour's Woman of the Year certainly sparkles even when at her most exposed moments.
