Jason Statham has recently expressed his interest to be the next James Bond a.k.a. Agent 007. However, the British actor revealed his characterisation of the spy would be different compared to what’s been shown about the character over the years.

The 47-year old expressed with clear enthusiasm his interest to portray the James Bond role during an interview with The Guardian about his new film “Spy.” When asked whether he would want to be the next James Bond, Jason Statham replied, “Abso-f***ing-lutely.”

“Would I do it? Abso-f***ing-lutely. Is Daniel Craig a great Bond? Abso-f***ing-lutely,” the actor further confirmed his eagerness.

Jason Statham further admitted that he would “make a decent” James Bond. But revealed he would portray a different version of Agent 007. “It’d be very, very different if I did it,” he said but didn’t provide further details. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Statham’s statement simply suggests the actor wants to deviate from the “somewhat elitist roots of the character.”

The actor portrayed the role of a villain in “Fast & Furious 7.” So when asked whether he would like to portray as a Bond villain, Statham was first hesitant to reply but in the end said he’d rather “play the other guy.” “That’s not my thing (being the film’s antagonist),” he explained.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Daniel Craig’s James Bond contract will end this year, with “Spectre” being his second-to-the-last film. The future of Agent 007 will now depend on who will portray the character next.

However, according to The Guardian, there’s no doubt that Jason Statham could take on the role very well. He would reportedly be a wild card choice to be the next James Bond. The actor reportedly has the moves and even the skills (even performing his own stunts) to be the next Agent 007.

Rumours have reportedly already started among the British press about a James Bond re-cast. According to The Hollywood Reporter, aside from Jason Statham Idris Elba was once also attached to the role. However, the “Thor” star somehow hinted he will not be the new Agent 007 when he said, "If there was ever any chance of me getting Bond, it’s gone."
