Jarryd Hayne could find himself in a new NFL team this week after the Australian rugby league star was let go by the San Francisco 49ers, prior to the team’s 27-6 loss against the St. Louis Rams in Week 8 of the 2015-2016 NFL regular season.

Just after eight weeks into his NFL career, Hayne was waived from the 49ers’ roster before their clash with the Rams at Edward Jones Dome on Monday. But according to Steven Mullenax of SI.com Fansided’s The Landry Hat, Hayne would not be homeless for long, with the Australian rookie drawing interests from the Dallas Cowboys.

Mullenax noted the Cowboys’ special teams unit that failed the club twice in the fourth quarter of their 27-20 loss against the New York Giants, where the Cowboys gave up a kickoff return for a Dwayne Harris-touchdown before wide receiver Cole Beasley muffed a punt return, resulting to a turnover that robbed Dallas one final chance to win the game.

“The 49ers surprisingly released Hayne on Saturday, probably hoping to stash him on their practice squad,” Mullenax wrote. “But franchises that need special teams help, like the Cowboys, are likely interested in obtaining his services.”

Dallas has been finding an adequate special teams returner ever since Harris joined the Giants during this year’s free agency, leaving the Cowboys with rookie receiver Lucky Whitehead and Devin Street. However, the return duo of Whitehead and Street has only averaged 21.7 yards of kickoff return and 3.5 yards of punt return, giving the Cowboys more reason to sign Hayne, who averaged eight carries on 25 yards and returned eight punts for 76 yards, and shocked the NFL world with his punt returning skills during the preseason.

However, pundits and fans predict Hayne could be back in the 49ers’ fold after the club lost veteran Reggie Bush to a suspected torn ACL in San Francisco’s loss to the Rams. Bush, who took Hayne’s punt return job, joined running back Carlos Hyde and Mike Davis in the 49ers’ injured list after fielding a punt and then slipping on concrete just off the field. Kendall Gaskins was left as the only healthy running back, but the new recruit only posted six yards on five carries in his debut.

According to Fox Sports, Hayne’s return with the 49ers would depend if the 27-year-old rookie does not get picked up in the next 24 hours by another team. The growing list of injured players has opened the door for the former Eel for another chance to be in the 49ers’ active list, but it also gave other NFL teams like the Cowboys, Chicago Bears, and Seattle Seahawks the opportunity to snatch the Aussie punter.

Meanwhile, Hayne’s Australian agent Wayne Beavis has ruled out any chance for the Aussie rookie to play again for the National Rugby League. Beavis said Hayne is committed to playing American football and has no chance of coming back to NRL.

"There's no chance of him coming back, none at all," Beavis said, reports the ABC. "He is 100 per cent committed to what he is doing over there."
