Jarryd Hayne was benched for the first time in his young NFL career during the San Francisco 49ers’ 20-3 loss against the Seattle Seahawks last week. Although limited in opportunities, the 49ers has been allowing Hayne to field during game days, suiting up at either punt returner or backup running back. But some of the US media think coach Jim Tomsula and the rest of his coaching staff have no idea on how to utilise the Aussie’s talent.

Steve Berman, writing as the Bay Area Sports Guy , believes Hayne is one of the few dynamic players in San Francisco’s roster, but the Australian rookie has not earned the team’s trust yet.

“Yes, [Hayne] he’s fumbled a couple of punts and isn’t a pure running back,” Berman wrote. “But the 49ers have shown no creativity either.”

SB Nation’s Niner Nations writer David Fucillo is also convinced that Hayne is one of the truly dynamic athletes in San Francisco’s team. Fucillo noted that Hayne should get as many reps as possible, considering the 49ers’ slump in the first half of the 2015-2016 NFL season.

Hayne recorded his second fumble in as many as six games in the 49ers’ win over the Baltimore Ravens in Week 6 of NFL, which could be the reason for the former Eel’s benching against the Seahawks. But according to NFL’s Hardcount host Laurie Horesh , Hayne being inactive is not the end of his NFL career, comparing the 27-year-old Aussie to Dallas’ rookie prospect La’el Collins, who has also been a healthy scratch for the Cowboys.

Hayne admitted he was disappointed with the benching, but the Australian rugby league star accepted the setback as a challenge in his young NFL career. According to Roger Craig, three-time Super Bowl winner with the 49ers, Hayne must be flawless in this week’s training to regain his spot on the field when the team faces the St Louis Rams in Week 8 of the NFL season.

“Jarryd has to be flawless in training this week,” Craig wrote on Fox Sports . “You could argue it’s not fair to place that much pressure on practise drills, but he’s in a position where he can’t give the coaching staff any reason not to play him.”
