The new CW hit series “Jane The Virgin” has just launched into the home stretch of the first season. At this point, the characters have been introduced and their storylines told. The later half of the season deals with giving viewers some answers and setting up the platform for launching season 2. Most importantly, the birth of Jane’s baby is expected to take place in the season finale.

Apart from Jane’s vow of celibacy until marriage, another big premise behind the show is Jane’s accidental insemination and the resulting pregnancy. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, “Jane The Virgin” showrunner Jennie Urman reveals that by the end of season 1, Jane would give birth to her accidental baby. “I do want the baby delivered at the end of (episode)22, because there's a big moment there that would launch the second season.” says Urman. She explains that just because Jane has given birth, this doesn’t turn her into a dull character.

She reveals that she’s been questioned numerous times about the character and what happens once the baby arrives. She says that in her opinion, it’s “crazy” how people question how the show would go on one the baby is born. She states that just because a woman has a baby doesn’t mean that she’s no longer interesting. Jane will be facing brand new challenges in her life and she will need to strike a balance between her new role as a mom and the old life that she had before the pregnancy turned her life upside down.

Urman explains that once the baby is born, a lot of questions will also come up in relation to Jane’s relationship with Rafael. While many questions in the storyline will be answered in the upcoming episodes, a lot more will come up especially when the season ends. Urman says that because the series has been renewed, this sets up a lot of energy for them to come up with season 2. The same strategy was employed when the first season was planned. The original order of 13 episodes was meant to be fast paced where viewers get exactly what the series is all about. By the end of episode 13, many questions were answered including the identity of the elusive criminal “Sin Rostro.” Apart from the answers, more questions were laid out to set up the later half of the season. With episode 16 coming up next week, viewers will be treated to more twists and turns in “Jane The Virgin.” The series airs Mondays at 9 pm on The CW.
