Jackie Chan's son is charged with drug offense by a Chinese prosecutor in Beijing. The Hollywood star's son, Jaycee Chan, is accused of a serious drug offense. He may now face severe punishment for the crimes.

Earlier reports showed that the Chinese Police Department found 100 grams of marijuana in his home in August. According to the coverage by News.com, the prosecutor will now produce the evidence and witnesses to help the court decide whether to acquit Jaycee or not on the serious drug offense.

If Jaycee is found guilty with the charges, he might have to face three years of jail in harsh conditions in the Chinese detention centre. Beijing police had caught Jaycee in his Beijing apartment in August, along with another actor, Taiwanese movie star Ko Kai. Both young men were tested positive for marijuana and had admitted to drug abuse during the interrogation.

Apart from the drug abuse allegations, Jaycee is facing a more serious charge of providing shelter to other drug users. At the time of his arrest in August, Jaycee's management firm M'Stones International has released a statement on his behalf to seek apology from the government and the public. The firm also claimed that they will ensure the actor's proper treatment and rehabilitation through medical help.

During the last few months, the Chinese government has come down strongly on drug trafficking, selling and its illegal use. Laws were made stricter, and even the celebrities were not spared if found guilty of any drug offense. As per Daily Mail, at least 10 local yet popular stars have been detained on drug-related charges this year. Chinese experts claim that the police intentionally target the celebrities as they have greater influence on the public, especially the youth. Moreover, their arrest would send stronger and clearer messages to the general public.

The recent development has proved to be a major setback for one of the biggest Asian Hollywood superstars. Jackie has been known for his national pride for China, and had been ironically named, "Narcotics Control Ambassador" in 2009, as told by the Daily Mail.

After his son's arrest in August this year, the actor had expressed his frustration and anguish through Sina Weibo service that he is "extremely angry and extremely shocked". "As a public figure, I am ashamed. As a father, I feel terrible," told the 60-year-old actor. The actor is known for sharing a strained relationship with his troubled son. He is also known for jokingly, yet sadly, asking Will Smith to swap kids with him.
