'Jack Reacher 2' will be like a stand-alone movie, says director Edward Zwick
“Jack Reacher 2” will begin filming in October, director Edward Zwick confirmed in a recent interview. Zwick also talked about the production and what the fans can expect to see in the next movie.
Speaking to Collider, Zwick said that he liked the franchise because each movie seems like a stand-alone film with the protagonist getting involved in different challenges and meeting a whole set of new characters each time. Tom Cruise will be coming back in the lead role of the movie and he is the only confirmed cast member at this time.
“Jack Reacher 2” will be filmed in New Orleans. The director explained that the filming location was not chosen for any tax benefits that the city may provide, but because the story takes some of the characters to The Big Easy .
Zwick also revealed that it was challenging to scout for locations in New Orleans because it is 95 degrees Fahrenheit (35 degrees Celsius) and 98 percent humidity in the city when they went there. Zwick was however happy to note that he will be filming the movie in October, which is said to be the “perfect time” to film in New Orleans.
The film will be shot in the 35mm anamorphic format and will not be going digital for the filming. Zwick said that he won't use an IMAX camera for “Jack Reacher 2” and explained that the choice of the camera depends on what is appropriate for a particular movie.
Talking about the action in the movie, Zwick said that any time an actor does the fight scenes on his own; he is already “pushing the boundaries.” The director mentioned that the nature of the fights in his next movie will be “very realistic.” He teased that there will be a particular action sequence that the fans can look forward to, but it won’t be something “grand” like Cruise hanging from an airplane, which he did in “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation.”
In a previous interview with JoBlo, Zwick had praised Cruise for his hard working nature. The director teased that “Jack Reacher 2” will have some dark elements, like the previous movie, and at the same time retain some of the humour.
