It seems that tech giant Apple is entering the phablet category and will finally let go of its signature iPhone design.

A new concept image of the upcoming iPhone 6 and iPhone 5S courtesy of the Martin Hajek showed a striking resemblance to Apple's iPad Mini.

The design of the new iPhone 6 has a 4.8 inch display screen and looks a lot like an iPad Mini. The key difference to the previous iPhone designs is the absence of a home button. The removal of the phone button has allowed the designers to produce an iPhone with a screen size just shy of five inches but roughly the same size as the iPhone 5.

They propose to achieve this and compensate for the lack of a home button by utilising the trackpad design that is employed in the company's Macbook. This functionality provides a completely clickable touchscreen which in turn provides a bigger touch target. This means it can be used higher up in the screen but may pose problems for compulsive gamers who spend a lot of the time hammering down on the buttons shown on-screen - time will tell.

If the rumours proved to be true, the next generation of iPhone will be a direct competitor of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 3. There was also a rumour that the Note 3 will be launched the same time as iPhone 6, 5S.

On the other hand, Apple is speculated to unleash the two handsets in August of this year and early next year. According to AppleInsider, Chinese company Foxconn, the manufacturer behind most of Apple's products, will exclusively produce the iPhone 6 and iPhone 5S.

Apple are expected to include an improved camera in the iPhone 6 and/or iPhone 5S which is rumoured to be capable of taking "Super HD" pictures. In order to take snaps at that resolution it'll need to have at least a 13 mega-pixel camera.

The lack of NFC support on the iPhone 5 was one of the biggest criticisms aimed at Apple's smartphone. Rumours suggest that the iPhone 5S could include support for the contact-less technology which can be used to pay for items in retail stores. Other features rumoured to be included in the handset is the A7 quad core chip processor, Retina or IGZO screen display among others.

However, the Cupertino-based company remained tight-lipped on the details of the upcoming smartphones.
