iPad mini 2 release date could still change the mindset of gadget shoppers within the next couple of weeks. Since early this year, rumours about the small Apple tablet have been spreading non-stop. The same type of rumours has been surrounding the iPad 5 release. Many have given up on waiting, but others are still being patient or on the fence. Will these much-anticipated new "toys" from Apple beat the best 2013 Android devices, so far?

iPad mini 2. Retina display, or the lack thereof, stopped many Apple fans from grabbing the new mini late last year. Now there is a mix of rumours about the mini 2's display. Some unofficial reports guarantee the sharp display, some says there will only be a slight improvement due to supply chain issues. It is widely believed the screen quality of the new small tablet will be one of the most important shopping factors this holiday. The mini was introduced with a starting price of $329 a year ago. A leap from this level could turn off buyers. A lot already thought $329 was so costly compared to the Nexus 7's $199 starter.

iPad 5. Apple has helped popularize the practicality of owning a small tablet. Still, its full-size tablets are not exactly dying in the market. There are still many tablet shoppers who prefer the bigger tablets over the nearly phablet-size devices. The next iPad will reportedly be more powerful, CPU and memory-wise. It will reportedly be lighter and slimmer to attract a bigger chunk of tablet shoppers. But it is also believed to be more expensive that most Android devices.

Tablet shoppers who are also Apple fans will be choosing between iPad mini 2 and iPad 5 from this year to early 2014. Millions of Apple buyers are early adopters. They are the ones who line up outside the company's stores just to be the first to get the hottest new device.

Earlier this year, the iPad mini 2 release date rumours seem to be eclipsing a lot of iPad 5 scoop. As fall approaches, however, it seems both devices could be (almost) equally well-received. The market could see a very interesting change if either one gets released first. Tech reviewers can't wait to see if the mini 2 could beat the Nexus 7 2nd generation (among others), and if the new full-size tablet could win against the (much-anticipated) Google Nexus 10 2nd gen in specs.
