The iPad mini 2 release date is expected in the last quarter of the year, particularly in October, according to reports. Here are some "leaked" images of the new mini tablet. The Australian blogger who leaked the images is now featured on CNN Money for his controversial Apple leaks.

Australian blogger Sonny Dickson has showcased several photos of the iPad mini 2 shell, as well as the iPhone 5C shell, among others. The photos don't reveal much about the device's specs or features, but it gives Apple analysts some room for speculations. CNN Money on Tuesday (Sept. 3) ran a report on Dickson, who drew 1.3 million pageviews to his site in August over his Apple "leak photos."

The iPad mini 2 leaked photos in Dickson's blog do not show much innovation on the current iPad mini 2 panels. This supports speculations that the new mini will show only minor bumps in specs and features, and there may be no Retina display in the 2013 serving. But who's dishing the leaked images? (See his tweet below.)

CNN Money describes Dickson as "an Australian teenager living in the environs of Melbourne." The young man says his Apple photo sources are people who "work for Apple in China." The teen said his site has been visited by U.S. Homeland Security 67 times in the previous month alone. Evidently, his iPhone 5C and iPad mini 2 photos could be taken seriously.

iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C will reportedly arrive in September as advance Apple party for the 2013-2014 iOS launches. The new iPad mini release will reportedly take place around the time of the mini's anniversary, as widely expected. Digitimes had earlier reported there will be no 2014 delay for the new iPad mini. Citing industry sources, the tech site said LG Display was ready to ship around 3 million panels for Q3 2013.

According to 9to5mac.com, iPad mini 2 will be fuelled by "the same A6 system-on-a-chip inside of Apple's iPhone 5," but it will lack the highly anticipated (nay, demanded) Retina display technology. The same blog picked up reports that another iPad mini with Retina will be released in 2014.

Sonny Dickson, for his part, keeps his Apple iPad scoop laden with mystery. In his Aug. 26 post, he captioned the gallery of leaked photos with a simple line: "Just when you thought we were already up to our necks in iPhone part leaks, we've just gotten our hands on the iPad Mini 2 Shell."
