Atlanta rapper Clifford Joseph Harris, Jr., who is professionally known as T.I., is returning to his trap music roots with his 10th studio album “The Dime Trap.” As a prelude to the album, Iggy Azalea’s former mentor dropped his surprise five-track EP titled “Da’ Nic” on Sept. 10.

In a recent interview with Billboard, T.I. said the “The Dime Trap” album is dedicated to his “day one fans.” He said he wanted to speak for people who could not necessarily speak for themselves and for those who lived in underserved areas of society.

For T.I., trap music is the perfect instrument for him to speak for people who knew something is going on but did not know how to articulate it. His EP “Da’ Nic” featuring Young Thug and Young Dro is named after the slang term for a nickel bag.

“The Dime Trap” is set to be released before 2016 by Grand Hustle Records, which T.I. co-founded with his business partner Jason Geter in 2003. The EP “Da’ Nic” was independently launched through Empire Distribution.

More than a week after dropping his EP titled “Da’ Nic,” T.I. explained why he will no longer work with Azalea after helping her to launch her career in the United States. In an interview with New York City radio station HOT 97, he said he was no longer involved in the Australian rapper’s career.

“It took a bit of a rest stop,” T.I. said when asked about having not spoken to Azalea for a long time. He explained that the decision to cut ties with Azalea is partly because of the beef between the “Black Widow” rapper and his other protégé Q-Tip. When Q-Tip accused Azalea of having little knowledge about hip hop and appropriating black culture, the latter took to Twitter to respond. For T.I., Azalea made things worse by responding to Q-Tip.

Describing himself as a loyal partner, T.I. said he really feels that Q-Tip and Britney Spears’ “Pretty Girls” collaborator just needed a little more time to adjust. He added that the two rappers have the talent and the charisma.
