“The Vampire Diaries,” or “TVD,” star Ian Somerhalder attended day three of the 2015 Wizard World Comic Con Chicago on Saturday, Aug. 22, to promote the CW Network’s TV series. Aside from the TV promotion and meet-and-greet with the fans, Somerhalder also talked about his “Lost” character Boone Carlyle during the Q&A portion on stage.

Just Jared reports that Somerhalder wore a t-shirt that supports his foundation called the Ian Somerhalder Foundation, or ISF, when he attended day three of the Wizard World Comic Con at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Chicago, Illinois. Somerhalder, 36, admitted that he made a mistake portraying Boone Carlyle in the pilot season of ABC’s TV drama series “Lost.”

Somerhalder, 36, told the audience at the 2015 Wizard World Comic Con that he often reflects on why he was killed off in “Lost.” Somerhalder explained that the viewers like to see conflicted characters but through humour.

“Humour is a medicine for pain. It’s a Band-Aid. Boone, unfortunately, and this was my fault as an actor. Boone was a spoiled, rich little bastard who couldn’t smile to save his life,” Somerhalder said in the Chicago Tribune report.

Somerhalder reportedly made sure that he will not make the same mistake after landing the role of Damon Salvatore in the CW TV series “TVD” back in 2009. Somerhalder even used “Lost” character Sawyer, played by Josh Holloway, as his inspiration for his “TVD” character.

“Josh Holloway is an amazing actor. Sawyer is a really great character -- one of the most conflicted, funniest dudes ever. And I feel that way on ‘Vampire Diaries,’” Somerhalder further shared during the 2015 Wizard World Comic Con. The performance worked for Somerhalder because he is able to have fun and bring a lot of edge to the vampire character.

Meanwhile, Somerhalder recently shared on Instagram a throwback photo of his “TVD” character from the pilot season.

“Damon Salvatore Season 1 hair/makeup/wardrobe test trailer self(ie) NoFilter,” Somerhalder posted as a caption to the image shared on his Instagram account iansomerhalder. Click here to see photo.

Ian Somerhalder returns as Damon Salvatore in “The Vampire Diaries” Season 7. The CW TV series’ new season is set to premiere on Thursday night, Oct. 8, at 8/7c.
