The mobile - billed as the world's slimmest phone at 6.5 mm thick - will go on sale in 31 markets, including Britain, Germany and China, starting this month for 449 euros ($630) without a SIM card or service contract. The Huawei Ascend Mate 7 will officially hit the market on Monday through JB Hi-Fi and Harvey Norman. The device will also mark its debut at Dick Smith Electronics with Vodafone as its carrier. The Ascend will sell at $699 compared to its similarly sized competitors like the iPhone 6 Plus which is sold at a starting price of $999 and the newly launched Samsung Galaxy Note 4 which costs $949.

The obvious price difference of the Mate 7 which is around $300 cheaper is not the only reason why this device is interesting. Despite the relatively cheap price, the specs of the new device are rather impressive. It will be interesting to note the points made by The Australian about the new Ascend.

This much awaited Android KitKat 4.4 powered smartphone is made from aluminum alloy which makes it light yet sturdy. It appears to be 3.5mm wider than the Note 4 yet slightly slimmer. The Mate 7 has a 6.0-inch full HD screen with 368 pixels per inch resolution while the Note 4 has a 5.7-inch Quad HD screen. Unlike the Samsung device, this new comer is not capable of shooting 4K videos. It has an IPS LCD capacitive and not a Super AMOLED touchscreen.

Under its hood is an impressive 8-core Huawei Kirin 925 processor. Four of which are large A15 1.8 Gigahertz chipsets for heavy duty processing while the other four small A7 1.3 GHz chipsets are for less intensive actions. The company claims that using the smaller chipsets can save 50 percent power.

The Mate7 has a fixed rather than a removable battery. The company says that 4100 milliampere hour battery is huge enough to perform 9 solid hours of internet surfing, 60 hours of music playback, 15 hours of running movies saved on the device and 8 hours of streamed videos.

The phone offers the Category 6 4G for faster cellular connectivity plus a fingerprint sensor at the back which can read fingerprints no matter the angle, no matter if the finger is wet or dry. Family and even other users can have their prints registered as well. For privacy, the owner can set-up guest access so they can limit the apps that guest users can access.

The Chinese phone maker also equipped the device with a 13-megapixel camera with 2.0 aperture lens plus a 5MP selfie front facing camera which can shoot 22mmwide angle mode selfies. The user can use the camera's shutter by holding the phone in front while pressing the fingerprint sensor.

TechRadar adds that the mate will be available in Obsidian black and Amber Gold. The black variation will be available from Vodafone but pricing for Dick Smith stores is yet to be confirmed.
