HTC seems to have kept its promise to bring owners of the unlocked variant of the HTC One A9 a January security update in the US. During its launch, the Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer had pledged to update its most recent device One A9 within 15 days of Nexus devices getting updates.

Mo Versi, VP, Product Management at HTC recently posted on his official Twitter account confirming that the unlocked version of the device will receive security updates coupled with other bug fixes. According to 9to5Google, the update was pushed by Google on Jan. 4 and is expected to fix 12 security holes along with bug fixes.

The update over-the-air (OTA) will be rolled out in a staggered manner and will take time to reach all users. Those who have not received a notification to update can head to settings and check.

In addition to platform updates, monthly security updates help devices remain secure. After the much talked about Stagefright Android vulnerability issue, Google decided to push out monthly security patches for devices running on the OS. In the meantime, starting Jan. 18, the Marshmallow OS update with the Sense 7.0 skin on top was rolled out to HTC One M9 on major Canadian carriers including Sasktel, Rogers, Wind and Videotron.

HTC is tipped to refresh its M series of smartphones and launch One M10. But the tech conglomerate will not unveil its new flagship device at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2016. Alternately, it will opt for a dedicated event in March to launch its upcoming flagship.

The HTC One M10 is speculated to be powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset and come packed with a fingerprint scanner for authentication. The handset is also believed to have an IP68 certification for water and dust resistance.
