The HTC One M8 has been newly updated to the CyanogenMod Custom ROM based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. It offers the Doze power saving feature; a new security feature; Now on Tap; a faster Chrome browser and enhanced support for international languages, among others.

If you’re keen on exploring more options and enhancing your experience on the M8, install the CM13 firmware onto your device. But you need to exercise caution when installing to prevent any errors. Before we tell you how to install, read the prerequisites for installing.

Don’t try installing CM13 Android on any device other than the HTC One M8 GSM model. Otherwise, the internal software will break down. The custom ROM helps improve UI and the performance of your handset but doesn’t come with a warranty period.

Check if your device is rooted before heading for custom ROM. Also, clean the phone memory as it tends to wash out once installation starts. The advice is to install Clockwork Mod Recovery or TWRP in your device as a backup to all essential data.

Use a USB driver to sync between your device and the computer so that your handset’s recognized during the installation process. Make sure the phone’s battery is fully charged, else all data’s lost if installation is interrupted midway.

Follow these steps for installation (Also check this out):

Step 1: After you download Google Apps and CM13 custom ROM in to your PC, connect HTC One M8 with the PC via USB cord.

Step 2: Copy past Google Apps file and custom ROM zip files from the PC to the phone’s memory.

Step 3: Press hold the ‘Power’ button long to access the Bootloader mode that lets you enter the Recovery Mode.

Step 4: Select wipe data/factory reset in the Recovery Mode to clear phone’s memory. Also, clear cache memory with ‘wipe cache partition’.

Step 5: Once done, return to recovery screen and press ‘install zip from SD card’.

Step 6: Enter Android 6.0 Marshmallow ROM. Zip file in the SD card and start installation.

Step 7: Once installation is done, turn off your phone and then switch it on to start the rebooting process.
