Viewers will be saying their sad goodbyes to the "How I Met Your Mother" gang when it returns for the final season, but actress Alyson Hannigan, who portrays Lily Aldrin, is currently pitching for the spin-off series with co-star Jason Segel as her on-screen husband Marshall Eriksen.

It appears that Ms Hannigan does not really want the successful TV comedy series to end and the spin-off series may keep the HIMYM spirit carry on. "I'm trying to convince Jason Segel to do the spin-off. He said he'll do it if it's called, 'Out By Lunch' and we can get out by lunch everyday and we only work a couple days a week. I'm like, 'I'm in.' We can do it - we work really quickly together," the actress shared during an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

Aside from the possible HIMYM spin-off series, Alyson Hannigan is hoping as well for another television stint with J.J. Abrams. The 39-year-old actress revealed that the director contacted her after her TV series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" got canceled to offer a part in a TV pilot being created.

Alyson Hannigan recalled that she declined the offer because her heart was already set for a comedy series. In the Latinos Post report, the actress shared: "I got an amazing phone call saying J. J. Abrams wants to meet with you and I had a wonderful meeting with J.J. Abrams. I had to make the hardest decision of my life-telling J.J. Abrams I didn't want to do a one-hour show. I want to do comedy and I want to see my husband once in a while. So I said, 'Do you maybe want to do a half hour? Like a comedy?'"

Ms Hannigan further added to Entertainment Weekly that J.J. Abrams was signing her up for a pilot role that was not pursued. "It wasn't like Lost or something. Could you imagine if I turned down Lost?" Alyson declared.

Now, the actress would love to hear again from director J.J. Abrams since "How I Met Your Mother" wraps up with the finale season giving her more spare time. "I'm available for Star Wars! Just so you know!" Ms Hannigan stated directly to Mr Abrams.

Fans can watch Alyson Hannigan returning as character Lily Aldrin in "How I Met Your Mother" Season 9 which will premiere on September 23 at the CBS television network.
