In HTGAWM 1x12, Annalise Keating confronts Connor to make him realise she is the best option in the situation. Later, Bonnie reveals she now knows what is going on, and she thinks Annalise should refrain from protecting her husband’s killers.

Marcia Gay Harden reprises her role as Dr. Hannah Keating in “How To Get Away With Murder” Episode 12. She is determined to pin Sam’s murder on Annalise, but police fails to spot anything suspicious at the Keating home. During their search, the cops even inadvertently dismiss a part of the murder weapon.

In the new episode’s twist, Annalise’s lover Nate is arrested for the murder of Sam Keating. Frank and Annalise worked out a plan together, so that Nate’s print would be in Sam’s ring. Still, the arrest breaks Annalise, pushing her to call her mother for help.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, “How To Get Away With Murder” show boss Peter Nowalk said Viola Davis proposed the introduction of Annalise’s mother. Nowalk said it “sounds brilliant.”

“She knew this child (Annalise) would be somebody special, but the end result of that achievement is not what Ophelia expected,” Cicely Tyson told EW, describing the perspective of Annalise’s mother, Ophelia. (The name means “help” in Greek.) She debuts in the series in the next new episode, premiering on ABC on Feb. 19.

The introduction of Ophelia in “How To Get Away With Murder” will let viewers see “Annalise’s original scar,” Nowalk told EW, noting “Ophelia brings out a very raw, childlike side to Annalise.”
