George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin are headed for Marrakesh, Morocco for their honeymoon, says the European rumour mill. Last week's wedding in Venice has shaken the glitzy world of entertainment, yet the buzz has been mostly about Clooney. Why did he tie the knot, after refusing to get married seven times? Finally, the 56-year-old has succumbed to the 36-year-old.

Many have called him "one of the world's most eligible and sexy stars," while Alamuddin was his "ladylove." No one thought too much about her, except for giving her credit for having managed to bag the "Hollywood heartthrob".

However, Amal's career too is impressive, from the available information. She is a human rights lawyer, who has graduated from Oxford University and NYU Law. This London-based British-Lebanese lawyer, activist, and author is also a barrister at Doughty Street Chambers. Her specialization in international law, criminal law, human rights, and extradition has won her kudos. Though only 36, her resume stands out, as she has visited many U.N. commissions. She has taught at The Hague Academy and The New School in New York. She even did a stint with U.S. Supreme Court judge, Sonya Sotomayor.

She is fluent in three tongues at least---Arabic, French, and English, and has worked with high-profile clients including Wikileaks' founder, Julian Assange; former U.N. envoy on Syria, Kofi Annan; the state of Cambodia; the former Libyan intelligence chief Abdallah al-Senussi; and ex-Prime minister of Ukraine, Yulia Tymoshenko. She has made her hands dirty working with issues related to Syria, drones and Wikileaks and visited many United Nations commissions to fight for human rights. There are a number of publications to her credit, the last one being The Anatomy of an Unfair Trial at Huffington Post.

Amal dazzles everyone with the brilliance of her mind and intellect, earning laurels due to the Shrigley Award at Oxford University and the Jack Katz Memorial Award at New York University School of Law. She was voted hottest London barrister in 2013.

Born in war-torn Beirut in 1978 to Ramzi Alamuddin and Bariaa Miknass, she was the daughter of a retired professor of business studies at the American University of Beirut and a senior correspondent and editor at Al-Hayat newspaper. They all moved to London when Amal was just two years. She has one sister, Tala, and two half-brothers, Samer and Ziad.

The Lebanese beauty is not like Clooney's range of ex-girlfriends, including supermodels and actresses. Instead, she explores humanitarian law and international politics. Is that why he got hooked? After all, George too has completed plenty of humanitarian work in Africa and the Middle East, and is quite conversant with international law and politics. However, no one really knows why they got attracted to each other.
