It’s fair to say that Bungie’s “Destiny” has remained in gamer’s consciousness almost consistently since it’s release late last year. A steady spate of updates, weekly Strikes and a DLC pack in the form of “The Dark Below” has helped keep gamers interested, and the upcoming expansion is intended to bring even more into the fold.

The developer is wisely shaking things up with its latest expansion, “House of Wolves,” and has apparently listened to fan feedback, aiming to evolve the game’s story at the same time. The developer has released a brand new preview video on the “Destiny” YouTube channel, running almost six minutes long, which delves deep into what gamers can expect from “House of Wolves.”

The latest massive update will bring competitive multiplayer maps, new PvP content in the form of “Trials of Osiris,” the horde mode-esque “Prison of Elders” and more. Also taking center stage is a renewed emphasis on story, with Bungie promising a broader range of more interesting characters to interact with this time out.

“There are the quests that take you throughout the world, the backbone of the story that has you chasing down Skolas, and then there are these wanted Fallen bounties. You'll notice when you're roaming around the world we have specific named enemies all over the place and among various destinations, Petra's bounties, not the quests, but the bounties, those are meant to send you out to go hunt those Fallen down,” said Creative Director Matt Sammons during the video.

IGN reports that big changes are also coming to the way Bungie handles Weekly Heroic Strikes and Nightfalls. Though a “Destiny” staple, the Strikes have become increasingly repetitive. The developer aims to counter this by uncoupling them and ensuring that gamers no longer have to play the same mission for the Nightfall and Weekly Heroic.

A recent report by Polygon indicates that despite its shortcomings and missteps, gamers can’t get enough of “Destiny,” with the game now boasting more than 20M registered players. Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg has stated that the company is planning a continuous stream of robust content updates for “Destiny,” which may include the release of a massive DLC update called “The Taken King” this fall.
