From one country to another and from one government conspiracy to the next, the cast and crew of “Homeland” have definitely gone through a lot in delivering nail-biting tension to its fans. The show has been praised for centering on topics with conflicting political views. Now that the sixth season has ended, the show has to set up new horizons for the next one. For sure, there is a lot to look forward to in the episodes to come.

Spoiler alert! This article contains “Homeland” spoilers. Read on if you would like to know what happens next before the next episode airs.

In the season 6 finale of “Homeland,” Peter Quinn (Rupert Friend) sacrificed himself to give way to President elect Elizabeth Keane (Elizabeth Marvel) to set foot in the White House. Sadly, the new president took the opportunity to get back at the people who had wronged her in the past and had them arrested. This included Saul (Mandy Patinkin).

While it cannot be disputed that Season 6 ended in a shocking manner, executive producer Alex Gansa is not yet sure where the upcoming Season 7 will pick up. Talking to Deadline, Gansa said that they really hope that the finale paved the way for the final progression of the series. “Shocked is always a good emotion to evoke, so I guess I would hope they would be shocked as well,” he noted.

With just two final seasons left in the series, which is based on the Israeli show titled “Prisoners of War,” the stakes have skyrocketed and everyone is left speculating about season 7. With “Homeland” back on US soil for this first time in many seasons and with Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) no longer connected with the CIA, it is pretty clear that there are large plans for the series.

Gansa also revealed that they do not even know where they will be shooting the final two seasons. They do not yet have an idea of what story they will be telling or whether it will be set in America again, Russia or in Israel. However, he noted that they will be looking at real events happening all around the world. They will then decide how much of these events will influence their story for the seasons to come.

Season 7 of “Homeland” is expected to premiere in 2018. The series airs on Showtime in the US and on Channel TEN in Australia.
