“Homeland” showrunner Alex Gansa recently shared more details about the upcoming Season 6. The story provide more details on Carrie’s (Claire Danes) dark past, including how she met Saul Berenson (Mandy Patinkin).

Gansa acknowledged that Carrie and her bipolar condition will continue to be featured in the new season. The story will also show how Carrie started in intelligence work in the first place. The showrunner said that since college, Carrie was brilliant and had the potential to become excellent in the field of intelligence.

The showrunner told the Los Angeles Times that Carrie was noticed by Saul Berenson most likely through a professor at a university who described her as very perceptive and keen on human behavior. Someone noticed Carrie’s abilities and informed Saul that she may best be recruited and enter the world of intelligence.

“ I think that'd be an interesting thing to explore, now that I think about it. I mean, you will in Episode 12, hear the story of how Quinn was recruited. It's nice to know where these people came from,” Gansa explained

Gansa also cited that after Season 4, Carrie was starting to lose interest in the Central Intelligence Agency and the tasks she was being given. Season 5 featured a contrast where Carrie was doing a completely different type of work, compared to her usual job as an intelligence officer. They were able to present her in different emotional and professional states. Gansa noted that it was good to show how Carrie would be if she were trying to maintain a sense of normalcy in her life and career.

In Season 5, Quinn (Rupert Friend) was shown during his younger years before he joined the CIA. It was featured while he was struggling to survive. The character is expected to live on and appear in more episodes in Season 6. Based on Gansa’s statements, a flashback of Carrie during her college days may happen in future episodes. The scene where a teacher and Saul notice her talents may happen, followed by a present scene where Saul will feel accomplished that he was right about her all along.

Homeland” Season 6 is set to launch later in 2016.
