“Homeland” Season 6 is currently in the works. In the meantime, show star Claire Danes and executive producer and director Lesli Linka Glatter provided some details about the plot.

Entertainment Weekly exclusively reported that according to Claire Danes, who plays Carrie Mathison, her character will struggle with her troubled background as she moves toward some normalcy in her personal life. She will be stateside and living with her daughter. Danes added that this idea of atonement is still playing. Carrie will have gathered a lot of guilt through the years and will be dealing with it. She will also be on her medications and will most likely be mentally capable.

The actress said that Season 6 of “Homeland” will delve more on deep-conscience diving instead of madness or preaching madness. Danes explained how she thinks that the next season will be more about policy and politics and how the CIA participates in it, since the show returns to the United States.

Previously, showrunner Alex Gansa revealed that the sixth season will be set in the interim period when the outgoing U.S. president exits his position and the successor follows. Teasers also revealed that the incoming president will be a woman, regardless of the results of the actual presidential election in November 2016.

Glatter said that Keith Gordon will direct the premiere episode of Season 3. He will be working on episodes 3 and 4, adding that fans will not want to know why they are shaking things up this time.

Danes and Glatter said that viewers got to witness Mathison almost having a normal life in Season 5, although her calling disrupts her. Glatter said that it was exciting to work with Danes on the show. They have interesting, complicated and layered men and women on the show, but the women are particularly notable.

Glatter said that recreating “Homeland” every year makes everything exciting. He said that changing things up every time keeps him thrilled. He said that it is always a new show, a new crew and new content.

Homeland” Season 6 will return early in 2017 on Showtime.
