“Homeland” Season 6 is drawing closer and showrunner Alex Gansa recently provided some details on what to expect in the new plot. Also, fans took to Twitter to share their wishes of bringing back Quinn (Peter Friend).

Spoiler alert! This article contains “Homeland" spoilers. Read on if you would like to know what happens next before the new season airs.

According to Gansa, the series will continue to delve on the subject of maintaining security and privacy in the current age of terrorism. The showrunner was at a panel at “The Contenders” event by Deadline, where he shared that Season 6 will return to the United States for the first time since Season 3. He asked how to balance civil liberties with civil security. The storylines in the next season will most likely be very similar to actual situations, just like the previous seasons.

Gansa also shared that CIA agent Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) will be taking on new missions in Season 6. Previously, Mathison was working with a private institution in Berlin, against the wishes of Saul Berenson (Mandy Patinkin). Saul suspects that Carrie may be providing vital information to foreign entities, but it also seemed that he was also working on a secret mission. More details about the mission are set to be revealed in Season 6, as Saul returns to the United States.

The Siver Times writes that Carrie entered a relationship and wanted to have a normal life again, but she did not quite meet her goals. She will still be dealing with her bipolar disorder in the upcoming season. The setting will be in New York City, so there will expectedly be new threats or probably reflections of the 9/11 attacks.

In other “Homeland” news, fans are currently wondering about the fate of Peter Quinn, whose life was hanging in the balance in the Season 5 finale. In a #GIFParty that was organized by the official “Homeland” Twitter handle, fans bombarded the account with gifs and requests to have the character return to the show.

The Hollywood Reporter says that it is very likely that Quinn will return in Season 6. Executive producer Howard Gordon said that the extraordinary character has a huge chance of returning. However, there is also a chance that he may not be the same person as he was when he comes back. Fans also hope that the budding romance between Quinn and Mathison will escalate soon.

“Homeland” Season 6 will launch later in 2016.
