"Homeland" has been renewed for Season 5. Showtime announced in November that it has picked it up for Season 5 and it has ordered 12 episodes. It has been reported that Carrie's mother will be making an appearance soon. Tony award winning actress Victoria Clark has been roped in to play Mom Mathison. It is not yet confirmed whether she makes an appearance in "Homeland" Season 4 final episode, or will be introduced in Season 5.

[SPOILERS]

It seems highly likely that Carrie's mom will be introduced in "Homeland" Season 5. The almost one-hour Season 4 final episode may not have time for the mother, as events of Islamabad will be the focus. The brief synopsis of the episode reveals that Carrie and Saul will be investigating what the former saw in Islamabad.

The news about Mom Carrie does not come as a surprise, as she will be needed to fill the absence of Carrie's father, Frank Mathison. Late actor James Rebhorn, 65, who played the father's role, lost his battle with skin cancer after Season 3 wrapped up. There was much speculation about how his death will be shown in "Homeland." In episode 11 of "Homeland" Season 4, Carrie, who is in Pakistan, gets the news about her father's death from her sister. The news makes her want to see her daughter and for a few seconds, the viewers get to see her motherly side, not something that has been explored in the current season.

It is expected that Carrie will be returning to the U.S. in Season 4 finale and the audience will finally get to see her bonding with her daughter in "Homeland" Season 5. It is likely to begin on an uncomfortable note. The little one has been mostly 'out of sight and out of mind' in the current season. It may change in the new season, with Carrie having to take the responsibility of her daughter. So, one can expect to see more Carrie and daughter time and more motherly Carrie.

Meanwhile, there is a buzz that Saul might die in the final episode of "Homeland," as according to set based sources, an extensive funeral scene was shot. Also, Quinn's death is being speculated. However, Quinn's death, after Brody's death in the last season finale, is not something that the fans of the show would like to see. There is likely to be a mini-riot if that happens. "Homeland" Season 4 finale, which is titled "Long Time Coming," is scheduled to air on Dec. 28.
