Rupert Friend talks about his character, Peter Quinn, in “Homeland” Season 5 teaser clip. The actor reveals that his character will transform into a war machine.

In “Homeland” Season 4 finale, Quinn agreed to join a dangerous mission in Syria after Carrie (Claire Danes) refused to join him in Missouri. He disappeared after leaving behind a note for her, to be delivered in the event of his death. Along with Carrie, the viewers were also left with no clue about his whereabouts. In the teaser clip, Friend sheds some light on Quinn’s disappearance and his whereabouts.

At the beginning of the new season, viewers will find that Quinn has been in the “deepest, darkest Syria,” he says. He also reveals that Quinn and Saul, played by Mandy Patinkin, have struck up a “very special friendship.”

“It’s a bond that no one else can know about. I think, at this point, that suits Quinn very well,” Friend says.

And Patinkin chips in that Saul believes in Quinn more than anyone. “There is no one on this planet that Saul would put trust and faith that Peter Quinn,” he says.

It looks like Quinn's life-threatening mission in Syria has turned him into a more brutal agent. “I think Quinn has given up all pretense of a normal life and finds that idea ridiculous,” Friend says. “We are finding a much more brutal soldier.” According to him, fans should expect to see Quinn as a “war machine.”

“He is more removed and frozen than ever,“ Danes adds.

“Homeland” will return on Oct. 04 in the U.S., picking up more than two years after the events of Season 4 finale.
