June 2 Darkness Fake
That’s Fake points out the June 2 warning is just another rehashed rumour from previous spoof articles from the same website. That's Fake/NASA

The group behind the 15 days of darkness in January and the green moon in April is back. It is still using the same photos and planetary movement as the reason behind an alleged one day of darkness on June 2.

The only things the hoax maker changed are the dates and the planets involved. The familiar Now88news website was the one which initially posted the fake news, but it had removed the entry on its website when hoax busting site That's Fake exposed the fake news.

However, all the people behind the fake news did was move the same article to another website with another more respectable name - Times of Education. The article attributes the news to Charles Bolden, the real administrator of NASA, to whom the hoax makers attributed previous articles before.

The news alleged that is a rare event that has not occurred in 1 million years. Citing astronomers from NASA, Times of Education says, “the world will remain in complete darkness starting on Thursday, June 2nd, 2016 at 3 a.m. and will end on Friday 3rd, 2016 at 4:15 a.m.”

Called “June Black Out” event, it is being explained to an alleged astronomical event between Saturn and Jupiter which would engage in a close parallelism to be separated by 1 degree. “Saturn will pass to the southwest of Jupiter, causing Saturn to shine 10 times brighter than Jupiter. The light from Saturn will heat up the gases on Jupiter causing a reaction,” reads the hoax news.

It continues that the gaseous reaction would release an unprecedented amount of hydrogen into space which would make contact with the Earth’s sun at 2:50 a.m. It would allegedly cause a massive explosion on the sun’s surface, increasing the sun’s surface temperature to 9,000 degrees Kelvin instantly.

It would cause the sun to allegedly turn bluish which would take one day to return to its normal surface temperature. During the time when the sun is supposed to cool its surface, it would be dimmer. However, since it allegedly takes seven to eight and a half minutes for the sun’s light to reach Earth, the celestial phenomenon would not be felt on the planet until 2:58 a.m. on June 2.

That’s Fake points out “The article is entirely fantasy, and does not reflect reality whatsoever.” It adds the June 2 warning is just another rehashed rumour from previous spoof articles from the same website.

However, many netizens remain gullible. In the Comments section of the Times of Education article, TM asks, “Are the timings of the event given in the article based on Indian Standard Time? What is the experience an average Indian can expect?”

Thaye Chograb has his doubts, but adds, “If it happens, then we are the luckiest persons because according to this theory, such thing occurs only once around one million years.” Alfred Mothoa even hopes it would not last longer than one day.

But Kanishk describes the article as “Pure BS,” while James Edwards calls it a stupid article, and suggests “anyone that believe that it’s true in any way needs to remove themselves from the gene pool of humanity.”
